Postmodern Art: Banksy
This is an image from my favorite postmodern artist, Banksy. If you aren't familiar with his art, he is a street artist. Generally his pieces are made using spray paint and stencils, but he does occasionally dabble in sculpture. He is considered a vandal by any city where he paints, and therefore is anonymous. He never shows his face and nobody really knows who he is. Whether or not you agree with what he does, it is clear to see that he is a postmodern artist. When he is not rejecting traditional beliefs in his art he is creating self referential works such as this one.
This piece was created with spray paint and stencils in china town in New York City. It is postmodern for two reasons. First, it is self referential. It is a Graffiti image that makes use of the spray can in the anti Graffiti sign. Second, it is rejecting the traditional view that Graffiti is wrong. He chose this location because he obviously disagrees with what the sign says, and because he sees the painting over of the other graffiti here as censorship.
The rest of his portfolio is distinctly postmodern as well. he routinely uses popular images from pop culture in his art, and adds a twist. The Mona Lisa with a bazooka, Star wars' Stormtroopers, and prominent political figures all make appearances. Vandal or artist, Banksy is 100% postmodern.

Damn that is so self referential I feel dizzy. I Googled image searched his other crimes and couldn't stop laughing. Perfect example of POMO.
