This picture is known as “Talk Show Addicts” by Roger Brown. It is a perfect Postmodernism example, because it shows how television entertainment dominates our lives. In the picture, it shows similar houses and TV viewers watching similar programs. Brown uses no color, which express the darkness of the world. These people are close to one another, but they rather spend the time watching televisions. That’s exactly what’s going on in our society. Television has consumed so much of our time that we tend to get bored without it. People waste majority of their time on watching t.v. and consume every commercial without realizing it. I realized how television has impacted how families spend their leisure time. It limits social interactions between families, friends, neighbors, etc. “Couch potato are people who spends little to no time exercising and a great deal of time watching television.” I think that Brown’s photo implied the term “couch potato,” because, as you can see, people are sitting in one place and is laser focus on the t.v. Also, the image is dark, which can imply that it’s night time, meaning, people are up late at night watching television. These people could be sleeping, but they chose to stay up. Brown is trying to convince us on how consuming too much television entertainment can affect our health. Overall, I feel as though Brown is using this picture to tell the world what they are unable to recognized – we are addicted to television entertainment.
