week 2 blog post
Pop
Culture is such a broad topic it is almost impossible to just address one area
of it! Pop Culture is based on a repeated cycle from fashions to music to
movies everything seems to repeat itself and still carry the weight of pop
culture. Fashions such as MCM a very popular brand was heavily popular in the
late 80s and Early 90s before fading out as Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and
Gucci steady rose in popularity. MCM seemed to die out a bit and only recently
within the last two years has seemed to make a comeback not only within the
fashion world but also in the hip hop community with rappers and social media
stars beginning to wear it the same can be said for movies! Willy Wonka and the
Chocolate factory for example a classic movie reinvented for modern times
however it does not compare to the original starring Gene Wilder. Sometimes pop
culture can have to potential to either recreate previous successes and they be
great or destroy classics that should in essence be left the way that it is! One example of pop culture reinventing a
previous musical hit would be the song swing my way by KP and Envy brought back
into to the lime light thanks to the musical genius Bryson Tiller and the hit
Exchange. In Exchange he sampled swing my way as an adlib and the beat slightly
slowed down. This is one of the ways that pop culture can reinvent something
and make it be great again!
