The only vampire series that I’m interested in is Vampire Diaries.
However, the concept of vampires in general is a postmodern concept. Originally
they wore capes, had pale skin, and only came out during the nighttime. The
postmodern vampires wear nice clothes, look like regular people and in Vampire
Diaries, they have daylight rings that enable them to function in the daytime.
The vampires in Vampire Diaries even go to school with the regular teenagers. Also
the original vampires were often old and dark, but now the vampires are young
and vibrant. Vampires like Dracula were more mysterious, the Vampire Diaries
vampires’ existence is well known. The older vampires had more a negative connotation,
they were automatically assumed to be horrific and most times they were. In
Vampire Diaries, they FALL IN LOVE and make friendships. They have to tone down
their “vampirtivity” to not hurt their loved ones. They’ve become more accepted
and people aren’t as afraid of them as they used to be. The postmodern vampires
blend in with normal people. One of the most postmodern scenes was when the
vampire Caroline got pregnant. Most vampires are “turned” into vampires and
they aren’t able to reproduce, but she just so happened to have to be chosen to
reproduce. In addition to her having vampire babies, they babies were half
witches. They could cypher power to do different things. As a whole, vampire
diaries is postmodern because they aren’t what they used to be, the concept has
been revamped (pun intended). Nowadays the vampires are hip and accepted as
opposed to them being scary and mysterious.
This is a picture of Caroline pregnant. Technically vampires aren't supposed to be able to procreate.
I literally just watched this! This was a great example for me because I'm still trying to understand the meaning of postmodern art.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I think that the Vampire Diaries is a great postmodernism example, because there are some differences (as you had stated) from the older vampire version to the newer ones.
