Being famous is a huge platform in Pop Culture and sometimes using your basic first amendment rights can cause many controversies within the media. Take the situation currently going on with Colin Kaepernick choosing to kneel for the national anthem, versus standing with his right hand over his chest like many Americans have done for years.  This has created both positive and negative controversies within pop culture. Some may agree with the decision; based on the fact that his reasoning behind it is because of the oppression of African Americans. This reason has the support of many African Americans because in society there is still racism and because of that, this gives many of us a chance to make a statement that something need to be done. For others this statement has negative connotation such as dishonoring the United States and the many men and women that fought for our country. People have stated that this act is disrespectful to the country and some have chosen to boycott Colin and as an effect some fellow football players have lost endorsement deals. But with all negatives there is a positive because his Football Jersey sales have skyrocketed because he chose to take a stand on what he felt was right. So with that being said Pop Culture icons have this wonderful platform that they can use to bring light to situations and address social injustices that some cultures may face. It all depends on how one choose this platform to garner positive or negative attention through pop culture.
